The Music Entrepreneur Club is hitting the road and may be coming to a city near you!

What is it?

The MEC Tour is a series of pop-up music conferences with established professionals. Each conference consists of 6 hours of panels, discussions, and interactive workshops to learn and network with aspiring and established music entrepreneurs.

Why a "tour"?

Only a few cities are fortunate enough to have official music conferences, such as A3C or SXSW. If you don't live in one of these cities, then it's very expensive to attend. That is why we are bringing the conference to you!

Who Is Involved?

The tour is being organized by MEC leadership, in partnership with LA Vocal Booths, A3C, and  Songtrust. Together we worked to recruit a diverse cross-section of artists, producers, and professionals so you can get a variety of perspectives on how to achieve success in this industry.

workshop Schedule

Workshop 1 - Marketing: How to start building some momentum for yourself

  • A group discussion led by marketing experts and MEC leadership to help you understand your brand and how to tell your story effectively.
  • During the session we'll be brainstorming marketing ideas for attendees in the room.
  • You'll leave with an actual plan for you to start releasing consistent content that will help build momentum.

Workshop 2 - The most misunderstood topic in music: Publishing

  • Even if you have been in music for a long time, you probably still don't understand publishing 100%. It's confusing. That's why we'll have Songtrust rep, CJ Olivieri, break it down for you.
  • Don't be afraid to ask a question. We want to make sure you walk away knowing how to collect all your money.

Workshop 3 - Networking: How to build healthy relationships in the music industry

  • Building healthy relationships is a must in the music industry. Your are going to need the support of many people to build a successful career.
  • However, many music entrepreneurs are taking the wrong approach and are actually pushing people away, sometimes unknowingly.
  • During this session you will learn how to effectively communicate in person, via email, and on social media.

who we are

Damien is the founder of Black & Orange Management, and former President & Co-Founder of Funk Volume, a Los Angeles- based record label that had been cited as a leader among independent rap labels reaching $4M in sales in just the first 4 years. They earned consistent Top 10 chart placements on Billboard and iTunes and high profile write-ups in media outlets such as Forbes, Billboard, SPIN, LA Weekly, and more.

Prior to starting Funk Volume, he spent over 5 years in the consulting and financial services industries.

He earned his MBA from Stanford University, and B.S in Business Administration from UC Berkeley.

DJ Pain 1

Known for his production on Young Jeezy's platinum-selling album The Recession, producer Pacal "DJ Pain 1" Bayley stays busy. His journey started in the late 90's while cultivating hip-hop sensibilities through visual art, DJing, and beat-making. He balanced a career in youth service/teaching with creating music, often times marrying the two – he co-founded the first hip-hop performing arts program housed in an institute of higher education in his hometown.

Once he decided to focus on his production career, his resume quickly grew to include both legendary hip-hop acts (Public Enemy, MC Lyte) as well as contemporary hit-makers (Rae Sremmurd, 2 Chainz, 50 Cent). He has also garnered attention for his online video series on production and music business know-how.
